Conferences, films, taste workshops, cooking classes. Salone del Gusto and Terra Madre challenge us for five days with traditional dishes and a few novelties.
Salone del Gusto shows off good food
Salone del Gusto is a convention-like event that gives producers of high-quality foods worldwide the opportunity to introduce their products. Products must meet the criteria of Slow Food, which can be summarized by the key words “good, clean, fair”. To learn more about the criteria of Slow Food, please visit the website of Slow Food Germany.
Those who are interested in high-quality food will find great joy in wandering the halls, tasting various products, and chatting with the producers. The photos should give you an idea of what visitors can expect at Salone del Gusto. All photos of Salone del Gusto on the Flickr channel at Salatwerkstatt.
Ark of good taste at the Salone del Gusto
One of Slow Food’s great initiatives is the Ark of Taste. This project places threatened foods and dishes under symbolic extinction protection and ensures that they are preserved for mankind. The Salone del Gusto features a large booth that shows many of the products of the ark and tells their histories.
Extensive conference schedule by Terra Madre
There are daily presentations and discussions that deal with the central topics of our current food system. Delegates from the Terra Madre network around the world, experts, and other interested parties exchange ideas regarding these topics. During the first two days of the conference, the program included topics such as: seeds and nutritional independence, waste of food, and small-scale agriculture.
The presentations and discussions give delegates of Terra Madre the opportunity to exchange ideas about the situation in the countries they represent, and to discuss whether there are comparable or fundamentally-different problems in the food system. For the interested public, the conference provides deep insights into food and agricultural issues throughout the world.
